CUPPING.
Glass cups, a little heat, and suction that lifts and loosens tight tissue. Most people say it feels like a reverse deep-tissue massage.
We use traditional fire cupping. It increases circulation, releases muscle tension, and helps with inflammation. It's been around for thousands of years because it works.
We include it with acupuncture when it makes sense for your treatment, or you can book it on its own. It's a great quick substitute for a massage when you're pressed for time, or haven't found a massage therapist you really click with.
Cupping with Acupuncture
Fire cupping is often incorporated into your acupuncture sessions at no additional cost when it supports your treatment. Your acupuncturist will assess whether cupping would benefit your specific condition during your appointment.

CUPPING THERAPY BENEFITS
Our Denver and Boulder clients use fire cupping for:
Post-workout muscle soreness and athletic recovery
Respiratory congestion and immune support
Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
You'll feel a pulling sensation as the cups lift your tissue. Most people find it surprisingly relaxing.
Cups stay on for 5-15 minutes. Sometimes they stay in one spot, sometimes we glide them across the skin.
You'll have circular marks afterward. They're painless and fade in 3-7 days. Most people feel relief right away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Fire cupping is a traditional healing technique where we briefly heat the inside of glass cups with flame, then quickly place them on your skin. As the air cools, it creates suction - gently lifting tissue, stimulating circulation, and helping your body let go of stagnation and tension. The technique has been used for thousands of years and remains one of the most effective ways to release deep muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and support your body's natural healing processes. Every session is customized to support your unique condition, comfort level, and wellness goals.
-
Most people find fire cupping surprisingly relaxing. You'll feel a pulling sensation as the cups create suction, but it shouldn't be painful. We adjust the pressure based on your comfort level and treatment needs.
-
The circular marks are from increased blood flow and tissue release where the cups were placed. They're not bruises - they're evidence of stagnation being cleared. The marks typically fade within 3-7 days.
-
The flame briefly burns inside the glass cup, consuming the oxygen. When we place the cup on your skin, there's less air pressure inside the cup than outside, which creates suction that pulls the tissue upward. The fire is the tool that creates the vacuum - it never touches your skin, and the cups aren't hot when applied.
-
Most cupping marks fade within 3-7 days. Darker marks indicate more stagnation in that area and may take slightly longer to fade. The marks are painless and are a normal part of the healing process.
-
25-minute sessions are perfect for focused treatment on one specific area like shoulders, upper back, or neck. 50-minute sessions cover multiple areas and are best for full-body recovery, post-workout soreness, or when you need more extensive work.
-
Yes, when performed by trained practitioners. We use sterile techniques and adjust treatment based on your health history and comfort level. Some people experience mild soreness after cupping, similar to a deep tissue massage.
-
You may feel relaxed, slightly sore (like after a workout), or more mobile. Drink plenty of water, avoid intense exercise for 24 hours, and keep the treated area warm. Most people notice improved pain and mobility within 1-2 days.
-
Absolutely! Fire cupping works beautifully alongside acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and massage. Many of our patients combine cupping with regular acupuncture sessions for enhanced results.
